In September 2019, during the China (Chongqing) – Philippines Economic and Trade Forum held in Manila, Panhua Group signed an agreement to develop a major steel manufacturing project. This $3.5 billion investment will establish a fully integrated steel industrial park in General Santos City, covering 6 million square meters.
Once operational, it will be the first facility of its kind in the Philippines, with an annual production capacity of 10 million tonnes. The park will support the global operations for Panhua Group by providing essential raw materials. Key production capabilities will include steel rolling, galvanizing, and pre-painting, along with a range of auxiliary facilities such as sintering plants, blast furnaces, converters, and rolling mills.
The first phase of the project will focus on producing 3 million tonnes of galvanized and pre-painted steel coils annually, in addition to 2.3 million tonnes of slabs and billets. This development will help create a sustainable and technologically advanced industrial cluster in the region.
The Panhua Philippines Port Project involves an $800 million investment, covering 600,000 square meters with a total quay length of 2,500 meters. Designed with an annual unloading capacity of 40 million tonnes, the port will feature 10 berths, including 6 for 50,000-ton vessels and 4 for 200,000-ton ships, capable of accommodating vessels up to 300,000 tonnes. With a 500,000-square-meter storage yard and on-site office and residential facilities, the port will handle various cargo types such as heavy machinery, steel, coal, ores, timber, and vehicles. It will primarily support the import of raw materials and export of finished goods for Panhua Group.
Once operational, this port will significantly enhance the logistics channels for Philippine exports and further strengthen the logistics system of Panhua Group. Panhua Group will connect its domestic ports, including Huada Port in the lower Yangtze, Yueyang Port in the midstream, and Chongqing Port upstream, with the Philippines Port to create an eco-friendly river-to-sea logistics network tailored for the steel industry. This integrated logistics network will help reduce transportation costs, streamline the import and export of finished products, and strengthen the global competitiveness of Panhua Group.
